Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work under the direct technical supervision of the Group Infection Control Nurse to implement infection control policies and procedures within the hospital unit.
- Conduct ongoing review of infection control policies, procedures, and guidelines to identify infection control discrepancies and implement necessary revisions.
- Monitor and review infection control indicators (e.g., hand hygiene, surgical site infection, sharp incidents, etc.); identify gaps; and implement corrective/preventive measures.
- Interact with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other professional/nonprofessional staff members to communicate feedback on non-conformances, provide information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve services and reduce costs.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary members representing quality, facility, medical, nursing, operations, allied health, housekeeping, and other clinical and non-clinical department in implementing changes to achieve the successful operation of infection control measures.
- Escalate feedback on infection control matters which are beyond capacity to the immediate supervisor for further intervention and resolution.
- Conduct regular surveillance, audits, and infection control related activities (hand hygiene audit, HAI surveillance, mask fitting, infection control event celebrations, PPE training, post-exposure management with sharp injury, etc.), with timely report.
- Conduct mandatory surveillance, data collection and reporting of notifiable diseases as and when required, in alignment with healthcare regulations mandated by the Ministry of Health.
- Provide orientation and in-service education to ensure knowledge and understanding of occupational safety, work requirements, and responsibilities in infection control by all levels of staff.
- Collaborate with HR and provide direction regarding employee health issues such as post exposure management, staff vaccination or on vaccine-preventable diseases, communicable diseases and other infection prevention/control related issues involving hospital employees.
- Assist GICN with investigations of outbreaks (if any), data collection, reporting of findings, and implementation of preventive measures.
- Oversee infection control regulation and requirement of construction and renovation activities in the hospital and/or clinic. Conduct assessments and inspection, provide feedback, monitor compliance, document, and report findings prior to and throughout construction/renovation activities.
- Coordinate and conduct infection control related workgroup meetings. Prepare agenda, document, and circulate meeting minutes.
Attend regular and ad-hoc meetings as required by the hospital (and/or clinics) to report necessary data with updates, as well as provide and receive feedback. - Act as an advocate to clinical staff, patients, visitors, where appropriate, to upkeep infection control standards and promote awareness.
- Keep abreast with infection control knowledge, guidelines, and evidence-based practices. Be responsible for the professional development with regards to infection prevention and control.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the Unit Nurse Manager or the Group Infection Control Nurse.
𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
- Bachelor of Nursing / Diploma in Nursing
- Must have a minimum of three years clinical experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge with disease surveillance and infection
prevention experience is an advantage.
