Yangon, Myanmar, 25 October 2025 — Institut Jantung Negara (“IJN”), Malaysia’s premier heart institute, and Yoma OUE Pun Hlaing Hospital (“YOPHH”), a leading private hospital in Myanmar, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) aimed at bringing specialised paediatric cardiac care to children in Myanmar. The partnership represents a breakthrough for hundreds of Myanmar families whose children are living with congenital heart conditions.
This cross-border collaboration will enable IJN’s renowned paediatric cardiac specialists to conduct regular visits to Myanmar to provide consultations, interventional cardiology procedures, and life-saving cardiothoracic surgeries at Pun Hlaing Hospital. Children who require more advanced care will be referred to IJN’s world-class facility in Kuala Lumpur under a structured and coordinated referral pathway.
“This collaboration is a reflection of IJN’s commitment to expanding access to world-class heart care beyond Malaysia’s borders,” said Datuk Dr Shaiful Azmi Yahaya, Chief Clinical Officer. “Children and families who might otherwise not have access to the care they need.”
This MOU is designed to ensure that Myanmar families have access to advance paediatric cardiac care, making essential care available locally and timely referrals possible when needed. Our visiting doctors will be working hand in hand to ensure meeting Outpatients, Operating the Surgeries, and Interventional Procedures. Patients could book for medical consultation appointments through the HEAL By Pun Hlaing Application, Call Centers, and be able to access Medical Loan through partnered private banks as well.
Yoma-OUE Healthcare is committed to bringing the care into health led by our flagship healthcare provider, Pun Hlaing Hospitals, their staff, and a pool of full-time dedicated doctors. The first Pun Hlaing hospital was established in 2005. It is the very first hospital in Myanmar to be awarded the American Joint Commission International Accreditation for quality and patient safety.
By providing highly specialised care within Myanmar, children from across the country, regardless of background, will now have a greater chance of survival, recovery, and a better quality of life. For the people of Myanmar, this collaboration represents more than medical services; it is a promise of equitable healthcare and new hope for families in need.
“Every heartbeat matters. Through this collaboration with IJN, we’re bringing life-saving cardiac care closer to home for Myanmar’s children. It reflects who we are at Pun Hlaing Hospitals — a team driven by compassion, guided by excellence, and dedicated to making advanced healthcare not a privilege, but a right within our own communities,” said Dr Zaw Win Sandy, Chief Operating Officer, YOMA Pun Hlaing Group of Hospitals.
YOPHH will provide the required clinical infrastructure, post-operative care, and local coordination, while IJN collaborates on the clinical services and knowledge transfer. Beyond immediate care, the collaboration includes capacity building through training programs, medical education, and hands-on mentorship for local medical professionals.
The MOU, while non-binding in nature, formalises both parties’ commitment to a high-impact collaboration that goes beyond services. It lays the foundation for sustainable improvements in Myanmar’s paediatric healthcare ecosystem, by saving lives today and empowering local professionals for tomorrow.
